Planning a party, a dinner or a wedding? Uber's here to help.
UberEvents, a new Uber service announced Wednesday (it was previously available as beta in six U.S. cities), lets event organizers set up advance, bulk rides for their guests.
To do so, hop on over to uber.com/events (beware, the service is U.S. only and accessing the page from any other country will only net a "page not found" sign) and create an event. You'll be e-mailed guest passes, which you can then forward to your guests. Invited guests will receive a code which they can enter into their Uber app, and then request a ride to the event when they're ready.
The event organizer can control all the parameters of rides; for example, it's possible to set a timeframe when rides are available, and limit them to a certain location or set up a price limit. Once the limit is reached, the guests are on their own. After the event ends, the organizer will only be charged for the amount his or her guests used.
Uber competitor Lyft already has a similar service called Lyft for Work. Aimed at companies, the feature also enables transportation for parties and conferences.
According to an October report from The New York Times, the ever-expanding Uber is looking to add another $1 billion in funding, increasing its already enormous valuation to $60 billion or $70 billion. The company has recently been focused on conquering the enormous markets of Chinaand India.
