Target Corp. is planning to rebrand all
CityTarget and TargetExpress-branded stores to the Target name, the
Minneapolis-based retail giant has announced.
Target
(NYSE: TGT) will begin the rebranding in October.
“Big or
small, our stores have one thing in common: They’re all Target,” the retailer
said in a release. “We’re committed as ever to our urban growth strategy,
developing stores specially designed for densely populated areas.”
Target
introduced the CityTarget concept in 2012 as a way to break into downtown urban
markets. A three-level, 160,000-square-foot CityTarget opened to great fanfare last month at 1342
Boylston St. in the Fenway neighborhood. The store was by far the largest CityTarget concept, which
ranged in size from 80,000 square feet in Portland, Oregon to 125,000 square
feet in downtown Chicago.
The 14
CityTarget and TargetExpress stores across the country will be rebranded with
the Bullseye logo starting this October. Also in October, Target will open four
smaller-format stores in San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago and Rosslyn,
Virginia and two traditional-size stores in San Diego Del Sur, California and
Fort Worth, Texas.
