Farm Boy sows seeds for store in Oakville

Co-CEO says residents have been asking for a store in the Oakville area

Farm Boy’s Ontario expansion continues, with plans to open this fall at Oakwoods Centre in Oakville—part of a vision to open up to 50 stores in the Toronto area.

Set to open at the corner of Upper Middle Road East and Joshuas Creek Drive, the 23,250-sq.-ft. Farm Boy store will create 150 new jobs for the community.

“I’m pleased Farm Boy will be joining Oakville’s esteemed business community,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “Its fresh market store – and the jobs it will create – will be a welcomed addition to our town and livability.”

In 1981, Jean-Louis and Colette Bellemare opened the first Farm Boy in Cornwall, Ont., a modest 300-sq.-ft. store that sold only produce. Oakville will mark the company’s 27th location and it’s expanding quickly, having recently opened two other stores.

“Offering fresh, wholesome foods and friendly service has been the heart and soul of our business since 1981,” said Jeff York, Farm Boy co-CEO (pictured). “After opening our locations in Etobicoke and Hamilton, we received many requests from residents in the Oakville area asking us to open a Farm Boy in their neighbourhood.”
