Walmart Texas Expansion Continues with Two Sizes for Neighborhood Market Stores
Source: Dallas News, Thursday, Dec 11, 2014
Walmart’s current expansion plans continue with the retailer’s focus on Texas, a state that has also been of significant interest for its competitor, Dollar General. Its current plans for Texas show that the retailer is continuing to build neighborhood markets in two distinct size formats, 40,000 square feet and 12,000 square feet.
Its two size formats reflect the retailer’s former growth plans that included both Neighborhood markets and the banner it is phasing out, Walmart Express. Since Walmart is continuing to build its Neighborhood Markets in two size formats it is likely that it will continue to expand with the different sizes, allowing it to be more versatile with its expansion plans.
It’s smallest format stores will likely provide low sales per store but are attractive to Walmart as they provide expansion opportunities in small towns that it would never be able to do business in with its larger format stores.
